Dominating all the Disciplines

Last weekend was filled with racing of all kinds. From Six Hours of Mt. Hood to Junior Track Champs, the Grixsen/ WestEnd team was present and rolling strong.

The Six Hours of Mt Hood saw our mountain man Shane Fletcher teaming up with OBRA friend Cliff Heaberlin in the Two-Person Masters 80+ category. The two put in a dominating performance and finished almost a full lap ahead of second place!

Farther south was the High Desert Omnium in Bend. The two-day event consisted of a time trial and crit Saturday, with a road race on Sunday. Paul Bourcier and Austin Arguello made the trip for what was Paul’s final race of the season before a much needed break heading into cyclocross season. Paul started the event strong with two second place finishes in the Cat 1/2 TT and crit on Saturday. On Sunday Austin joined Paul for the road race. After missing the winning break the two worked hard to catch the front of the race to no avail. Burnt from the effort the pair finished 10th (Paul) and 12th (Austin).

Have we mentioned our Junior’s love the track? Oh, it’s all we seem to talk about? That’s because they are dominant! Kyler Ervin, Lauren Ziehnert, and McKenna McKee readied their track bikes for the Junior State Track Championships on Saturday and brought their “A” game.

Kyler Ervin came home with a mound of gold as he claimed victory in the Junior 15-18 Points race, Junior 15-18 Sprints, and Junior 17-18 Pursuit. Competing in many of the same events was Lauren Ziehnert who took bronze in the Junior 15-18 Points race and Junior 15-18 Sprints, and finally grabbed gold in the Junior 15-16 Omnium. McKenna McKee didn’t have as many options for events, but she made the most of her single race by taking gold in the 13-14 Omnium.

That’s right, seven medals from three Junior riders. We couldn’t be more proud of the youngsters, and the rest of the team who found the podium this weekend!
