Though many star riders in the state have been hitting the early season stage races and classics outside Oregon, OBRA officially kicked off their road season last weekend with the Randall Fox Collegiate Omnium in Corvallis and the Jack Frost TT across the Columbia in Vancouver, WA.
The beautiful, but chilly weather delivered a great weekend for the team to flush out their early spring jitters and test their fitness after a long winter of base training.
Tim Mineo was the sole TCNF.LEGAL rider to test his legs at Jack Frost, but it only takes one rider to get the sponsors on the podium! With a fast-paced start to the season, Tim finished 2nd in the Cat 3 division and 15th overall in a well attended day of racing.
Just a short trip down I5, the young guns were getting their racing calendar underway. Justin Ziehnert and Kyler Ervin donned their UO collegiate kit as they competed in the OSU Randall Fox Omnium.
Both had a consistent weekend. Justin placed 6th in the Mens A road race, then came back the following day for 6th in the criterium. Kyler, competing in the Mens B division, placed 8th in the road race and again in the criterium.
Our young women also made an appearance in Corvallis, competing in the OBRA Women’s Prestige Series as part of the Omnium. Lauren Ziehnert placed 2nd in the road race and 1st in the crit in the Womens B group. McKenna McKee traveled south for the Womens A crit and made the most of her road season opener by taking the win. Proving once again that the collegiate circuit should be shaking in their booties for what’s to come.
In the upcoming weeks, expect loads of action as we dive into the spring calendar with Piece of Cake RR, Independence Valley RR, Kings Valley RR, and some gravel grinding in the Gorge.
